COPPELL, TX — Barcel USA, the US snack division of Grupo Bimbo, announced a reformulation of its Takis brand, removing artificial colors and the food preservative tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) from the rolled tortilla chip snack.

This move, spurred by the increasing demand for health-conscious snacks, will be implemented with a phased rollout.

“Moving to no artificial colors added and no TBHQ represents an important milestone for the brand,” said Sandra Kirkpatrick, senior director of marketing for Barcel USA. “It reflects our commitment to meeting the evolving expectations of today’s consumers while continuing to deliver the intensity Takis is known for.”

The reformulation will affect Takis’ most popular varieties, such as Fuego and Blue Heat, as well as newer offerings, including Pix, Xtreme Lime, and Jalapeno, which were formulated without synthetic colorants from their inception.

Barcel is currently rolling out the updated snacks through retailers nationwide, featuring a “No Artificial Colors Added” label on the packaging. The full implementation of Takis’ reformulation initiative is expected to be complete by the end of this year.
