TORONTO — OREO, a Mondelez International brand, collaborated with LucasFilm to release Special Edition Star Wars OREO Cookies.
The release features two iterations of the Star Wars OREO Cookie Packs. While both are in identical exterior packaging, each pack contains a single-color crème within the cookies that symbolizes the dark side or light side of the Force. To further entice consumers, the brand made each color a surprise reveal once the package was opened.
“The tremendous fandom between Star Wars and the OREO brand has made this strategic partnership such a fun collaboration and we hope fanbases of both communities are just as excited about the launch of Star Wars OREO Cookie Packs as we are,” said Colleen Bowker, brand manager of OREO Canada. “The OREO brand always strives to connect with our dedicated fans in new and unexpected ways through culturally relevant moments — making this partnership between two iconic properties such a natural fit.”
To depict the “light” or “dark” side cookie, these OREOs are filled with a red or blue crème infused with “kyber” sugar crystals — inspired by the crystals found in a Lightsaber. Embossments of corresponding characters such as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia decorate the front of each cookie. The special edition packs have 10 character cookie embossments across both varieties, totaling 20 unique options.
The lore continues with special packaging that Star Wars fans will recognize. As an homage to the franchise, the cookie packs feature original character artwork by long-time film poster artist, Greg Hildebrandt.
The new Star Wars OREO Cookie will begin rolling out at retailers nationwide on June 10. The packages will be available only for a limited time while supplies last.
