CHICAGO — To honor the 130th anniversary of its Biscuit Flour Mill, also known as Toledo Flour Mill, Mondelez International held a ceremony and full day celebration on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Toledo, OH.

The flour mill is the largest dedicated soft-wheat mill in North America and boasts one of the biggest grain storage capacities at 5.5 million bushels of wheat. It first began operations in 1892 and would become part of the National Biscuit Company, currently known as Nabisco, in 1926.

Over time, the Toledo Flour Mill made significant contributions to the Toledo economy and grain milling industry. Flour produced at the mill today is shipped to Mondelez’s bakeries across North America, serving as the foundation for products like Oreo, Chips Ahoy and Ritz crackers.

Through its operations, the Toledo Flour Mill processes nearly 1,000 acres of wheat and producer more than 1,500 tons of flour on an average day. The zero-production waste to landfill facility also serves as the wheat supplier for Triscuit crackers and recently began a field-to-shelf consumer transparency program.

Attendees included local employees, honored guests from the company and community, and local and state officials including congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, secretary of state Frank LaRose, Sen. Sherrod Brown, Gov. Mike DeWine, Sen. Teresa Fedor and Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukieweicz. Kaptur presented the flour mill’s leadership team with a Congressional Recognition celebrating the facility and LaRose shared a statewide proclamation.

“For more than a century, flour milled right here in Northwest Ohio fed people across Ohio and around the world,” Brown said. “Today’s celebration shows how successful a business can be with a strong presence and good jobs here in Ohio, which benefits everyone.”

In addition to celebrating the anniversary of the mill, the event also recognized employees critical to the Toledo Flour Mill operation.

To celebrate the milestone, the Toledo Flour Mill team curated collection of historic photos, lab equipment and other relics collected over the years representative of the facility’s storied history.
