OVERLAND PARK, KS — Richard “Dick” Cook, a veteran member of the baking industry, passed away June 23. He was 82 years old.
His contributions to the baking industry are extensive, particularly in terms of labor relations. Throughout his career, he negotiated hundreds of labor contracts with local and international unions. Cook spent 35 years with Hostess Brands, retiring as VP of labor relations in 2010. He also served in various organizations, including as secretary of the Bakery and Confectionery Union International Funds, chair of the HR committee for the American Bakers Association and as an employer trustee on Taft Hatley benefit funds.
Beyond baking, Cook was a lifelong golfer and college basketball fan. He was also a longtime member of the Country Club of Leawood and served on its board of directors twice.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Amy Forebaugh, and Daniel and Megan Nordstrom; five grandchildren; and his sister Cathy.
Visitation and a funeral mass will take place June 29 in Leawood, KS. In lieu of flowers, the Cook family requests contributions be made to the Evans Scholars Foundation in his name.
