Grupo Bimbo report reveals gradual sustainability progress

HORSHAM, PA — To accelerate its Nourishing a Better World sustainability strategy, Grupo Bimbo released its 2024 “Actions that Transform” annual report, outlining the advancement of its 2030 and 2050 sustainability strategy goals.

“2024 was a year of great progress and significant efforts to continue generating a positive impact on the planet, in the lives of our associates and in the communities we touch,” said Alejandra Vázquez, VP of global sustainability at Grupo Bimbo. “We are very proud of these achievements within our sustainability strategy as we take firm steps toward our purpose of Nourishing a Better World.”

The report outlines Grupo Bimbo’s Baked For Nature plan, which is centered on three pillars: net zero carbon emissions, zero waste and regenerative agriculture.

Grupo Bimbo noted that today, 97% of its global electricity use stems from renewable resources. Additionally, the company has achieved a 100% renewable electricity supply in 28 of the 35 countries it currently operates in.

In relation to packaging, the baking company has ensured 94% of its product packaging is now recyclable. This supports its goal to make all packaging recyclable, biodegradable or compostable by this year.

The report also highlights Grupo Bimbo’s progress on the development of its regenerative agriculture practices, reaching nearly 300,000 hectares.
