ALEXANDRIA, VA — Similar to advocacy events hosted by the American Bakers Association and SNAC International, the Peanut and Tree Nut Processors Association (PTNPA), which represents and supports leading peanut and tree nut companies, is rallying its members to address key industry issues with lawmakers.

“Facilitating direct dialogue between nut industry executives, regulatory agencies and policymakers allows PTNPA to transform member experiences and expertise into influence,” said Jeannie Shaughnessy, CEO of PTNPA. “During rapid regulatory and legislative shifts, we will focus on the tremendous economic impact of the industry, along with concerns regarding federal versus state regulatory mandates to make way for the success and growth of the industry.”

The organization’s upcoming DC Fly-In, to be held May 18-20, will focus on several key topics that also align with the interests of commercial bakers. Ahead of a day of visits with lawmakers and their staffers, participants will spend a day receiving briefings on topics ranging from the FDA’s priorities to extended producer responsibilities.

“Industry-informed advocacy ensures that legislative realities align with the practical needs of nut processing companies,” said Christina Chattman, senior director of government affairs for CPG business The Wonderful Co. and PTNPA advocacy committee chair. “Expert briefings and congressional meetings offer PTNPA members the opportunity to both learn and leverage their positions through real-life storytelling of success and struggles.”
