WASHINGTON, DC — The American Bakers Association (ABA) and the International Association of Plant Bakers (AIBI) teamed up to announce the creation of the Global Baking Council. The joint initiative was established to connect and strengthen trade associations  advocating for the commercial baking industry across the world.

The Global Baking Council brings together participating associations to support a more connected industry through structured dialogue, coordinated engagement, and timely insights on key regulatory and legislative issues.

“The Global Baking Council is designed to help commercial baking associations strengthen their global view and respond more effectively to the challenges and opportunities shaping the baking sector,” said Eric Dell, president and CEO of ABA. “By fostering open communication and information sharing, we can break down barriers to understanding how changing regulatory and consumer landscapes are affecting the industry globally and help support our respective member companies.”

As part of the Global Baking Council, trade associations will receive issue-focused briefings and updates through virtual and in-person meetings; shared expertise and best practices from peer organizations across markets; future engagement opportunities with international public organizations; and stronger association capacity to provide member companies with globally informed insights and context.

“The commercial baking sector operates within an increasingly interconnected global environment,” said Didier Jans, secretary general of AIBI. “Through this joint initiative with ABA and our international association partners, we are establishing a platform for sustained cooperation, shared expertise, and coordinated engagement. Together, we can amplify the collective voice of commercial bakers and strengthen our ability to respond to global challenges and opportunities.”

The inaugural meeting of the Global Baking Council will take place at the AIBI Congress on May 28 in France and include a formal signing ceremony.
