NEW YORK — Vandemoortele announced during the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association (IDDBA)’s 2022 conference that its Banquet d’Or Bake’Up pastries ranked highest among consumers in a blind taste competition.
The Belgian food group entered its French Banquet d’Or pastries, made from clean-label European ingredients, in a blind sensory competition held in Boston. Vandemoortele’s freezer-to-oven croissants, tasted side-by-side with three other recipes from top industry competitors, ranked highest among the 105 consumer participants who buy or eat croissants at least once a month.
“These results recognize not only our longstanding expertise but also our commitment to sourcing ingredients of the highest quality to produce the best-tasting products in the market,” said Sabine Sagaert, managing director bakery products for Vandemoortele.
The croissants received a score of 7/10 or higher from 75% of the panel, who cited taste, freshness and appearance as deciding factors for ranking.
Additionally, 69% of the panel said they would buy the pastry again and would enjoy these pastries for breakfast.
“As a family-owned company, we continue to emphasize innovation and authenticity, and this overwhelmingly positive outcome validates our values and future goals,” Sagaert said.
