WESTMINSTER, CO — TraceGains, a leader in compliance and networked product development software, has acquired NutriCalc, a European nutritional calculation software provider that helps food manufacturers achieve recipe nutrition targets and allergen labeling requirements.

With this acquisition, TraceGains inherits NutriCalc’s nutritional information, and NutriCalc will gain access to TraceGains’ network of over 70,000 supplier locations and a database of more than 500,000 searchable ingredients and items.

“We’re excited about this acquisition because it offers a unique opportunity to drive industry advancement by merging top-tier nutritional calculation, reporting and labeling solutions with TraceGains’ established compliance and product development leadership,” said Gary Nowacki, CEO of TraceGains, which counts Mexico-City-based Grupo Bimbo, the largest baking company in the world, among its customers.

Nutritional labeling — a requirement for commercial bakers and other food manufacturers — can be time-consuming and expensive.

“There are a few ways manufacturers can label their products,” Nowacki said. “They can buy a software package like NutriCalc, or they can hire a consultant every time they create a new product or reformulate an existing one, or they can send product to a lab for analytical testing. Options two and three are very expensive, and they’re not good for the planet in terms of material waste, transport and other factors. A good nutritional calculation and labeling software package wins on cost, time to market, and on the environment.”

The acquisition will expand TraceGains’ product suite and allow the company to provide a one-stop shopping experience to its customers.

“We already had great R&D software for developers at baking companies that could create the recipe and do iterations, cost roll-ups, change control, allergen management and other functions,” Nowacki said. “But to complete the very last step before product goes to the store shelf — putting the nutritional label on the product — they had to go elsewhere. The acquisition allows us to provide that missing piece to our customers.”

The integration is also expected to enhance the supply chain’s ability to tackle new product development and reformulation, along with global safety, environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges, and rapidly evolving consumer preferences.

“Since developing NutriCalc 30 years ago, it has become the industry standard in nutrition labeling across the globe at companies both large and small,” said David Bartley, PhD, founder of NutriCalc. “Our acquisition by TraceGains fuels the development of future innovations to the product and provides an immediate benefit to customers today by linking them to a robust ingredient marketplace and streamlining their processes. The combination of these products is powerful.”
