BUFFALO, NY — Top Seedz, an organic cracker brand that has grown from a stall in a local farmer’s market to a national brand, has opened a new production plant in Buffalo that is largely staffed by women refugees. The new facility has 10 times the capacity of its previous operation, enabling the company to keep pace with the increasing demand nationwide for organic, gluten-free products.
“We’re not just moving to a bigger, more modern location; we’re expanding possibilities,” said Rebecca Brady, founder and CEO of Top Seedz.
Brady, who has always considered female empowerment part of her mission, has employed women from more than 20 countries— many of them former refugees — as part of her 42-person workforce.
In the last six months, the company has tripled its distribution. Top Seedz’ growth received a boost in 2021 when Brady won $1 million in a funding competition for startups held by 43North, a Buffalo-based business accelerator organization.
The cracker brand now has five product lines, including new snack-size pouches, which will be available in 0.75-ounce and 1.5-ounce sizes. “With our new snack packs, we’re meeting our customers in different places,” Brady said.
The crackers are available in three flavors: Rosemary and Cumin, Sea Salt, and 6 Seed. Additional product offerings include Roasted Seeds, Raw Seeds and Snack Packs. Consumers can purchase these offerings online and in various grocery chains including Whole Foods, Wegman’s, Erewhon, Kroger and CVS.
