SPARKS, NV — Franco Baking Company, a 50-year-old family-owned and operated bakery known for selling bread products to restaurants and grocery chains throughout Northern Nevada and the Lake Tahoe area, was acquired by the Marybeth and Colin Smith, owners of Smith and River Restaurant and Roundabout Catering.

The business will continue to operate under the Franco name and sell the same products, which include French and sourdough breads, hamburger and hot dog buns, rolls and sliced breads. The bakery, which services about 600 accounts, will retain its 48 employees.

According to the Smith’s, the acquisition is good fit with Roundabout Catering’s business model and ethos with the family operated business.

“Not only do we have a bakery where we make our own rolls and bread for our catering and restaurants, but we also purchase bread from Franco Baking Co.,” Marybeth Smith said. “It fits our business model nicely with well-established routes to restaurants and stores and will continue to do so as we add products to distribute.”

“After the transition, we will look at possibly adding an artisan line of breads and bagels,” Smith added. “In addition, we have some other opportunities to add some of our signature sauces, dressings and spices to the well-established delivery routes.”
