MCLEAN, VA — Across the CPG food space, legacy and emerging brands are making investments in sustainability. Among these are efforts to adopt regenerative agriculture, substitute packaging for more planet-friendly varieties and adopt more clean energy options.

Mars Inc., parent company to a collective of food brands including Cheez-It and Pop-Tarts, has made major headway on the energy front. In its recently released “2025 Mars Sustainable in a Generation Report,” the company announced that all of its US operations are now powered by 100% renewable electricity.

“Reaching a milestone of 100% renewable electricity in our direct US operations is something to celebrate and be proud of,” said Poul Weihrauch, CEO of Mars. “Building a resilient business includes access to clean and accessible energy, farmers that are not at the mercy of extreme weather events and communities that thrive across our full value chain. Our priority is to continue our efforts to generate good jobs, support our associates and communities, and further our work toward a more resilient and sustainable future for all.”

This major milestone for Mars, made possible through broad decarbonization efforts across operations, resulted in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions of 42.6% and 6.4% in GHG reductions across the full value chain vs. a 2015 baseline. This makes Mars’ cumulative absolute emissions reduction 16.9%.

Through its Renewables Acceleration program, Mars has been able to extend its renewable electricity further, from its direct operations to broader value chains. This includes establishing a contract with Enel North America to back three Texas solar projects. Additionally, the company has several wind and solar projects that generate Renewable Energy Certificates, equating to the electricity used in Mars’ direct US operations.

On the agriculture side of the business, Mars expanded its portfolio of climate-smart projects to about 77 in total across 26 countries and 12 crops in 2025. This includes a partnership with PepsiCo and ADM to launch a regenerative agriculture program in Poland.

“The hard work of our associates and partners in 2025 demonstrates how sustainability sits at the center of how we plan, invest and operate,” said Alastair Child, chief sustainability officer for Mars. “Delivering impact at scale requires collaboration across industries, suppliers, governments, NGOs and local communities, and we remain focused on turning ambition into measurable progress across our value chain.”

These initiatives, alongside major investments to support manufacturing in the US, set the company up for further expansion on these sustainability-focused objectives.
