BROOKLYN, NY — In honor of National Cheesecake Day, Junior’s, a restaurant and bakery based out of Brooklyn, NY, held a national flavor contest. Out of more than 5,000 entries, Thomas Zahorec of Greenville, SC, was chosen as the winner of the contest with his peanut butter, chocolate and banana flavor.
Zahorec’s winning flavor drew inspiration from Elvis Presley, creating a combination based on the late singer’s favorite sandwich.
“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate National Cheesecake Day than by creating this new flavor to honor the King, himself,” said Alan Rosen, owner of Junior’s. “My deepest congratulations go to Mr. Zahorec for inspiring our 25th flavor.”
The limited-time flavor consists of a chocolate and banana cake baked with Junior’s Original New York Cheesecake that has been combined with peanut butter and banana puree and topped with banana whipped cream and a chocolate fudge border.
Zahorec received a $2,500 prize for the winning recipe as well as a cheesecake per month for the next year.
Consumers can order the limited-time flavor through Labor Day in Junior’s restaurants and by mail.
