LEAWOOD, KS — Mark Sabo, a media veteran of the baking industry, died February 24 at Saint Luke’s Hospice House. He was 71 years old.

Sabo was the son of the late Reverend Andrew and Madge Sabo, who started Bethany Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of the University of Kansas where he majored in Journalism. Outside the classroom, Sabo hosted The Mark and Bob Show on the University’s radio station. He was also involved in many student union activities. Upon graduation, he continued to cheer on the Jayhawks basketball and football teams, no matter how good (or bad) the season

Sabo enjoyed a long and successful career with Sosland Publishing Company in Kansas City, MO. His hard work led him to accomplish the rare feat of spending his entire 43-year career with a single company. During his time at Sosland, Mark managed various lines of its business, pioneered industry-leading techniques, and served on multiple industry boards. He spent the final 29 years as president and retired in 2015.

Paul Lattan, Commercial Baking publisher and president of Avant Food Media, remembered Sabo as a colleague, mentor and friend.

Sabo was remembered today in a private ceremony at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS.
