WASHINGTON, DC — The baking industry is celebrating the success of the 2025 Bakers Fly-In and Policy Summit, led by the American Bakers Association (ABA) in partnership with the Retail Bakers of America (RBA) and the American Society of Baking (ASB).

The event, hosted Nov. 3-4 and co-located with the Food Technical and Regulatory Affairs Professionals Group (FTRAC) Conference, brought together industry leaders from across the country as they met with representatives from Congress and regulatory agencies to address the shifts shaping the future of baking.

“This year’s Bakers Fly-In and Policy Summit was more impactful than ever,” said Eric Dell, president and CEO of ABA. “It showcased the strength and unity of the baking industry’s voice in Washington and advocated on timely and important issues. When our members come together to engage directly with lawmakers and regulators, we not only advocate for the future of baking, but we also demonstrate the essential role our industry plays in supporting America’s economy, health, workforce and food security.”

The 68 baking industry representatives in attendance had the opportunity to meet with 60 Congressional offices to amplify the unified voice of the baking community. The Bakers Fly-In and Policy Summit also featured special programming with Senator Steve Daines (MT), House Agriculture Committee Chair, G.T. Thompson (PA), Congressmen Darren LaHood (IL), Nathaniel Moran (TX), Tony Wied (WI), Mark Alford (MO).

“This event demonstrates the power of collaboration across all segments of the baking industry,” said Kristen Spriggs, executive director of ASB. “It was an honor to partner with ABA and RBA to bring together leaders from wholesale, retail and supplier organizations for meaningful discussions on workforce, nutrition and regulatory priorities.”

The multi-faceted event started with an introduction from Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA) and Congressman Donald G. Davis (NC) of a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives recognizing November as National Bread Month. As co-chairs of the Congressional Baking Caucus, Joyce and Davis discussed bread’s role as a nutritious, affordable and culturally significant staple food that reduces nutrient deficiencies and contributes to nearly 40% of dietary fiber in the American diet.

The fly-in concluded with a discussion with the FTRAC Professionals Group Conference and regulatory, food safety and nutrition policy leaders from across the baking industry to discuss the rapidly evolving food policy landscape. The session also featured an update from a congressional representative on the MAHA Congressional Caucus.

“Retail bakeries play an essential role in every community, and it’s critical their voices are represented in policy conversations that shape the future of our industry,” said Marissa Sertich Velie, executive director of RBA. “The Fly-In and Policy Summit brings together bakery owners from across the country to connect, learn and advocate for the continued success of small businesses. These conversations with lawmakers help ensure that local bakeries have the resources, support and opportunities they need to thrive for generations to come.”
