CARMEL, IN — BakingTECH 2026, the American Society of Baking (ASB)’s premier event, is on the horizon, set to take place Feb. 16-19 in Chicago.
As part of the event, the Rising Baker Award will be presented to a young professional who has made significant contributions to wholesale baking and demonstrated industry involvement and career dedication. Nominations for the award are now open through Nov. 24.
“Recognizing emerging leaders matters because their ideas and drive shape the future of baking,” said Nicole Barreiro, chair of the Rising Baker selection committee and group marketing manager for Middleby. “It shines a spotlight on those under 40 who are not only doing their jobs well but also innovating, overcoming challenges and contributing to the profession beyond expectations. Awards like this strengthen ASB’s mission by cultivating leadership, fostering connection, and encouraging excellence across our industry.”
The 2025 Rising Baker Award was presented to Sarah Tsocanos, manager of bakery for The Campbell’s Co. Tsocanos was the fourth Rising Baker Award recipient, following James Happ and John Hinds, who received the inaugural award in 2023 and Catherin Herrera who earned the honor in 2024.
“By emphasizing impact, innovation and growth rather than tenure, the Rising Baker Award supports ASB’s mission to deliver education, share technical resources, and foster connections that advance the baking industry,” Barreiro said.
