CHICAGO — With the American Society of Baking’s (ASB) BakingTECH 2023 approaching, attendees should heed some key dates ahead of the event set for Feb. 28-March 2 at the Hilton Chicago.

  • Feb. 6 – Housing deadline. Reserve a room on or before Feb. 6 to lock in a special rate of $189 for single and double occupancy. Reservations can be made online or by calling the hotel at (877) 865-5320 and mentioning the group code TBT.
  • Feb. 17 – Early registration deadline. Register on or before Feb. 17 to save $100.

This year’s BakingTECH is a three-day event filled with a host of new learning and networking opportunities.

“The BakingTECH 2023 planning committee worked tirelessly to create a theme of resilience that will be ever-present throughout the event,” said Monica Kline, director of business operations and education for the EnSol Group and BakingTECH 2023 planning committee chair.

Kline noted that the conference will include innovative features like baker perspectives in the sessions, networking and educational opportunities, and the BreadTalk stage, where bakers will share their stories of resilience.

Networking opportunities include the Society of Bakery Women’s networking and cocktail hour 5-6 p.m. on Feb. 27 and the ASB Young Professionals social event 7:30-9:30 p.m. on March 1.

The BreadTalks lecture series kicks off Feb. 28 during MarketPlace and features insights from bakeries such as Highland Baking Co., Bimbo Bakeries USA, Flowers Foods and more.

Other programming includes an all-new live podcast series, featuring several industry podcasts. On March 1, Joanie Spencer, editor-in-chief of Commercial Baking, will host Marc and Elana Schulman with Eli’s Cheesecake Co. for a special live episode of Troubleshooting Innovation, the Commercial Baking podcast.

Spencer will also moderate the DEI Workforce Panel discussion, which is scheduled for March 2 from 9:35-10:35 a.m. The panel will include Karen Bornarth from the Bread Bakers Guild of America; Joe Kenner from Greyston; Ted Castle from Rhino Foods; and Connie Dever from Flowers Foods. The panel will take a deep dive into how baking companies can put strategies into action beyond simply creating a diverse workforce. Topics will include economic equity, workforce inclusion and tangible examples of onboarding for open hiring practices.
