BEMA honors Kurt Miller with lifetime achievement award

OVERLAND PARK, KS — A new award recipient will join a storied lineup of honorees at BEMA’s upcoming convention in Waimea, HI, taking place June 25-29.

The association announced J&K Ingredients’ Kurt Miller as the 2026 recipient of the Fred Springer Lifetime Achievement Award. This distinction — BEMA’s highest honor — celebrates individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, service, and lasting impact on the industry and BEMA.

“Kurt exemplifies the excellence, integrity and commitment that define the Fred Springer Lifetime Achievement Award,” said Jay Hardy, BEMA 2025-2026 board chair. “His impact on BEMA and the broader baking industry will be felt for generations to come.”

Since the early aughts, Miller has made a notable impact across the industry and within BEMA. His contributions have supported several of the association’s initiatives, including BEMA-U and NEXUS. Miller has also lent his expertise to BEMA’s board of directors, serving as 2013-2014 chair.

Beyond service, Miller has become known across the industry and the BEMA membership body for his collaborative approach and steady judgment. His influence also extends to mentoring several members of the baking industry.

Previous recipients of this distinction include Formost Fuji’s Dennis Gunnell and LeMatic’s DJ LeCrone.
