CHICAGO — In support of the recapitalization and growth of Sweetmore Bakeries, a Chicago-based set of specialty bakeries, Shore Capital Partners is continuing its partnership and strategic investment with the baking company.

Sweetmore, a Shore Capital Food & Beverage portfolio company since 2019, was recapitalized through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) backed by the private equity firm.

“We believe the business is well-positioned for future growth, making the recap to an SPV a compelling opportunity,” said Jeff Smart, principal at Shore Capital. “Rising labor costs and increased emphasis on offering unique and innovative bakery items are driving retail and restaurant operators to identify efficient supply chain solutions while maintaining quality.”

Sweetmore was formed in June 2022 and has grown to become a leading sweet baked goods company.

The company manufactures a vast range of products, including muffins, brownies, cookies, biscotti, scones, Danishes, biscuits, bars, cinnamon rolls and pan dulce.

“Over the past five years, Sweetmore has emerged as a go-to supply chain partner for top grocery and restaurant chains by focusing on sweet baked goods product expertise, R&D, innovation, responsiveness and flexibility,” said David Veenstra, CEO of Sweetmore. “The entire management team is excited to continue our partnership with Shore Capital, whose resources and support will allow us to further invest in our organization, capitalize on a robust pipeline of add-on acquisitions, and pursue additional product development and growth opportunities.”

Earlier this year, Sweetmore Bakeries acquired Azteca Bakeries, a wholesale manufacturer of authentic Mexican baked goods and pastries. Last spring, the baking company snapped up cinnamon roll maker Sweet Eddie’s.
