MENLO PARK, CA — After three years of research and development to create an authentic better-for-you-tortilla, Rise & Puff launched its new line of tortillas that puff.

The puff comes as a result of removing eight of the 12 ingredients found in traditional supermarket tortillas that make it difficult for dough to rise.

“We believe great taste and better-for-you should go hand in hand, and it drives everything we do as a company,” said co-founder, Mark Shaw. “Once you try a Rise & Puff tortilla, you begin to understand why a tortilla is only as good as its ingredients. From monounsaturated avocado oil to unbleached wheat flour and the elimination of sugar, we view our tortilla as a canvas for better-for-you eating. Families deserve better, and this is only the beginning.”

Rise & Puff’s are available in three varieties: Original, Certified Organic and Gluten-Free, with Original using only four ingredients — non-GMO wheat flour, pure avocado oil, sea salt and filtered pure water tortillas. The tortillas take 60 seconds to cook and puff. When stored in their resealable airtight bags, the tortillas can last up to 40 days in the refrigerator.

“Rise & Puff fills a tremendous gap in the tortilla market in the US, which is stuck in the 1950s in terms of nutritional profile,” added co-founder Philip Summe. “Pair that with the pandemic, which accelerated consumers’ desire to conveniently cook a fresh meal at home, and it’s time tortillas make a statement in the better-for-you aisle. The Original and Gluten-Free varieties earned the ‘Great Taste’ award by the for their ingredient quality and taste. The taste of the Original tortilla was achieved by using with less sodium, calories and sugar than other tortillas. The taste of the Gluten-Free tortilla was achieved by removing xanthan gum.
