TINLEY PARL, IL — The Retail Bakers of America (RBA) has promoted Marissa Sertich Velie to executive director, effective immediately. Previously, Velie served as the organization’s education and certification director.
Mari Rydings is a versatile content creator, editor and marketer with experience developing dynamic, results-driven materials for B2B and B2C audiences. As the editorial director for Avant Food Media, she leads the day-to-day editorial operations for the company’s print and digital magazines, newsletters and social media platforms. Outside of work, she loves reading, hiking, putting together jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her husband and their twin daughters.

“In her role as our certification and education director, Marissa was instrumental in creating programs and partnerships that have taken our pillar of education to the next level,” said Scott Calvert, RBA’s board president. “Having an extensive background in education and the food industry, Marissa brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our organization.”
Velie’s leadership skills, along with her experience in strategic vision, baking education, partnership development and membership advocacy, will help drive RBA’s mission forward.
“I am overjoyed,” Velie said. “I am a baker at heart and by training, and I have profound respect for our members. Our retail bakery members are dynamic, hard-working, resourceful entrepreneurs and it is my primary goal to provide them with a robust community where they can learn and grow. When bakers come together, it is a very powerful thing!”
