TORONTO — A large fire destroyed Del’s Pastry in Etobicoke, Ontario, on June 16, according to a report from CTV News Toronto.
The fire broke out at 10 p.m. on June 15 and raged throughout the night. More than 80 firefighters were dispatched to bring the flames under control.
“Flames went all the way up into the air and there was so much smoke you could barely see driving down in this area,” said local resident Andrei Knezic to CTV News Toronto. The report stated that there was so much smoke that it caused a temporary shutdown of a nearby rail line.
Del’s Pastry is a family-run business that has been in operation for more than 50 years and employs more than 150 people. According to CTV Toronto, none of the personnel were harmed in the fire. The flames are believed to have originated in one of the bakery’s ovens, but the Ontario fire marshal will determine the cause.
The company specializes in cinnamon buns, Danish, strudel, cake and muffins. A notice on their website assures their customers they are working on a plan for existing orders and asks for patience during such a difficult time.
