WASHINGTON, DC — Workforce development, especially as it relates to the future, is a high priority for the commercial baking industry, and finding opportunities to educate people about available careers is one strategy for attracting and retaining talent.

Puratos and the American Bakers Association (ABA) recently welcomed Assemblymen Bill Spearman and Bill Moen and their respective staff to the ingredient company’s US headquarters and Innovation Center in Pennsauken, NJ. The visit included a tour of the facilities and conversations on topics such as sustainable packaging, building the future of the workforce through the Puratos US Bakery School and expanding operations in New Jersey.

“Having local and state legislators engaged in conversations about the future of baking is vital to strengthening the links between our industry and the communities we serve,” said Andy Brimacombe, president of Puratos US and Pennant Ingredients. “Through these partnerships, we aim to drive growth, innovation and workforce development, providing the next generation with the tools they need to thrive in baking careers.”

The event highlighted ABA’s commitment to emphasizing the role of commercial baking in local economies and communities.

“ABA serves as a vital conduit, connecting our members to key officials at the state levels,” said Rasma Zvaners, VP of government relations at ABA. “We are here to support and foster strong public and private partnerships that advance the interests of the commercial baking industry, ensuring our members have the resources and relationships they need to thrive.”
