LAS VEGAS — In a recent collaboration with Snap-O-Razzo Hot Dogs, Turano Baking Co., a Berwyn, IL-based commercial baking company known as the official bread supplier for the Chicago Cubs, created a new bun type designed for the brand’s hot dogs and smoked sausages.
The Ralphie’s Potato Poppy Hot Dog Bun is inspired by poppy seed Kaiser rolls often found in New York delis and the buns used in the iconic Chicago dog. The bun is animal fat-free, light and durable with a nutty flavor.
Ralph Perrazzo, founder of Snap-O-Razzo, wanted to develop a bun that enhanced his brand’s hot dogs. Turano Baking stepped up to the plate and lent its generations of baking experience to create a 6-inch, 1.6-ounce bun designed just for the 7.50-inch hot dogs.
“Chicago is known for its white bread poppy seed buns, and New York for its poppy-seeded Kaiser rolls, but Snap-O-Razzo is a nationally distributed company, and we needed a bun that made sense for everyone,” Perrazzo said. “I am incredibly grateful to the Turano family for their efforts in making this vision happen.”
The innovation also aligns with foodservice operators’ interest in plant-based bun options.
The Snap-O-Razzo Potato Poppy Bun is available nationwide and will soon be stocked with DOT Foods.
