HERNDON, VA — As far as hot topics in the packaging and processing industry go, none may be as prominent as sustainability. This in mind, PMMI, the association for packaging and processing technologies, is making sustainability a central focus of Pack Expo Las Vegas, set for Sept. 29-Oct. 1.

“PMMI is committed to reducing the industry’s environmental impact and improving sustainability in the supply chain,” said Jim Pittas, president and CEO of PMMI. “Pack Expo, its partners, vendors and exhibitors are dedicated to driving meaningful change in packaging and processing.”

The show has made several investments, partnerships and programming decisions with sustainability in mind.

For instance, PMMI has partnered with materials science company Dow, which will serve as the official sustainability partner and sponsor of show-floor recycling. Dow will leverage its expertise by educating showgoers about the importance of recycling and sponsoring all recycling at the event, including the addition of more recycling bins throughout the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Dow is also the sponsor of Sustainability Central, a show feature presented by Packaging World that offers expert-led education sessions designed to educate attendees on related topics.

“These free sessions will explore every aspect of sustainability,” said David Newcorn, president of PMMI Media Group. “Attendees will hear fresh perspectives from industry leaders and gain powerful insights to turn their brands into sustainability leaders.”

Another show section supporting sustainability is the Reusable Packaging Pavilion, backed by the Reusable Packaging Association. This dedicated area will offer insights into adopting reusable packaging and spotlight solutions companies can implement to build sustainable transport practices.

New to Pack Expo, expert-led Sustainability Tours sponsored by Anchor Packaging will be held Sept. 30 and feature a custom booth itinerary curated with the Sustainability Solutions Finder online directory and an exclusive networking reception. While the guided experience is free, there are a limited number of spots. Those interested should apply as soon as possible.

PMMI has made it easier for guests to identify exhibitors with sustainable packaging or machinery solutions with a Green Exhibitor symbol noted in the exhibitor directory and on placards at the event.

For more information, visit the Pack Expo website. Registration for the show is $30 until Sept. 5, after which pricing increases to $130.
