CLEVELAND, OH — This month, Orlando Baking Co., teamed with the Hunger Network of Cleveland to assist those in the hard-hit restaurant industry.
The Share the Bread – Build the Hope Restaurant Workers Relief Fund initiative takes steps to alleviate the strain many in the restaurant industry are feeling as a result of the pandemic. Statistics show that one in every six restaurants is closing permanently as a result of the pandemic.
As the need for assistance grows for those in the foodservice industry — many of whom are family, friends or customers of Orlando Baking — the company announced it will donate a portion of the proceeds from every product purchase to the Share the Bread initiative.
“These restaurants are serving our bread every day, and they support us every day,” said John Anthony Orlando, Orlando Baking president and CEO. “How can we not support them when they are going through hard times?”
Orlando Baking products’ packaging featured a QR code to announce the new initiative. Once scanned, the QR code directs consumers to the Share the Bread campaign site. The Hunger Network has a goal of raising $50,000 to feed local service industry workers impacted by the pandemic, according to Hannah Westfall, marketing and communications manager for the Hunger Network, Cleveland.
“These restaurants are serving our bread every day, and they support us every day,” said John Anthony Orlando, Orlando Baking president and CEO. “How can we not support them when they are going through hard times?”
“Potential for a matching gift, coupled with the outpouring of generosity from our Cleveland community, makes us believe that we can reach $50,000,” Westfall said. “Every donation, no matter what amount, makes a big difference for our neighbors facing food insecurity.”
Because the depth of the need is yet unknown, Orlando Baking did not place a goal on the total amount to be donated.
