KANSAS CITY, MO — Commercial Baking is kicking off the new year with a new season of Troubleshooting Innovation.

In its sixth season, the podcast — hosted by Joanie Spencer, editor-in-chief of Commercial Baking — will focus on Chabaso Bakery’s journey to becoming a Certified B Corporation, a designation given to for-profit businesses that balance profit with purpose, meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability and transparency.

This season will take a different approach from previous Troubleshooting Innovation seasons by having multiple guests from Chabaso. This includes Charles Negaro, Jr., CEO; Rich Jamesley, VP of operations and supply chain; and Reed Immer, director of sales and marketing.

Throughout the season, Spencer will dive into the company’s values and practices, how the company obtained its B Corp certification, how Chabaso integrates its values on the bakery floor, the bakery’s future plans for improvement and innovation, and additional benefits that come with being a B Corp.

“Out of nearly 3,000 Certified B Corporations, there are just 394 companies identified as food manufacturers and less than 40 as bakeries,” Spencer said. “Chabaso is blazing a trail as a purpose-driven commercial bakery and learning how this team has used their company as a force for good while also refining its operation is a can’t miss experience.”

The New Haven, CT-based commercial artisan bakery was started by Charles Negaro, Sr. Over the span of three decades, the family business has expanded its distribution of long-fermentation, high-hydration breads throughout the East and more in retailers nationwide.
