MARCQ-EN-BARŒUL, FRANCE — Yeast manufacturer Lesaffre announced it will make additional investments in its US operations to strengthen its presence, respond to growth in nutrition and health, and better serve its customers.
Lesaffre is investing in new equipment and R&D to be able to offer its US customers expanded solutions. To meet growing demand in the nutrition and biotech sectors, Lesaffre’s Red Star Yeast brand added a new fermentor at its Cedar Rapids, IA, facility earlier this year. The additional capacity provides customers with increased flexibility and adaptability.
Lesaffre also recently acquired capabilities from a Massachusetts-based bioscience company that focuses on naturally derived molecules to benefit human health. The investment will allow Lesaffre and Recombia Biosciences to explore the potential of plant metabolites produced through precision fermentation processes in bacteria and yeasts.
Lesaffre has operated in the US since 1978 and currently employs over 600 people in its yeast, bacteria and baking ingredients factories, Baking Center and corporate headquarters.
