NEW YORK — Over the years, Kind Snacks, a Mars, Inc. brand that produces nutrient-dense offerings, has taken various steps to continue its sustainability strategy, which includes making all of its packaging recyclable by 2030. The brand’s latest partnership with Printpack, a manufacturer of flexible and rigid packaging and Kind’s technical packaging partner, brings it closer to this end goal.

Kind introduced its first curbside recyclable paper wrapper pilot in the US. The packaging material, made with pulpable paper, will make it easier for consumers to recycle.

“At Kind, we’re constantly listening to our consumers, and what we hear is clear — they want products that not only deliver exceptional quality but also align with their values,” said Osher Hoberman, chief marketing officer of Kind North America. “This new paper wrapper pilot is a direct result of that feedback. We’re proud to continue to lead the industry with bold, forward-thinking and innovative solutions, not just for our packaging, but across our entire product portfolio.”

Kind R&D and its partners, including Printpack, spent the last year integrating learnings to bring the recyclable wrapper to consumers.

“Developing a recyclable paper wrapper in less than two years demonstrates remarkable progress in sustainable packaging innovation,” said David Love, chief strategy officer at Printpack. “This breakthrough sets a new standard for sustainable solutions in the food packaging industry and shows what’s possible when companies prioritize environmental stewardship.”

The paper wrapper will be available for the brand’s best-selling Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt single bars through Oct. 1 at select Whole Foods Market stores in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Texas and southern California, in addition to other stores in Louisiana, Arizona and Nevada.

“Our collaboration with Kind represents a true paradigm shift in sustainable packaging,” said Sandra Lewis, principal packaging advisor at Whole Foods. “Through their innovative development of this recyclable paper wrapper, they’re fundamentally reimagining how snack foods can be packaged. Working together to bring this solution to our shelves represents a significant milestone in our mission to reduce single-use plastics.”

This launch follows Kind’s inaugural paper-based wrapper pilot in 2023, which was available exclusively on the brand’s website.
