ERIE, CO — The National Honey Board’s annual Honey Saves Hives campaign is returning for its sixth year of supporting honey bees in the food industry and beyond.

Throughout September, also known as National Honey Month, consumers are encouraged to purchase local honey, while bakers and restaurateurs are invited to craft honey-infused dishes.

“When you purchase honey, you are directly supporting a beekeeper and the honey bees in their care,” said Margaret Lombard, CEO of the National Honey Board. “With our Honey Saves Hives campaign, we are underscoring the incredible connections between honey consumption, beekeepers and the honey bees that make it all possible.”

During the weekends of Sept. 5 and 19, consumers nationwide will have the opportunity to learn about honey bees and their relationship to the food industry through videos on bakery department screens and in-store demonstrations featuring honey taste tests.

The association has also recruited influential partners such as content creators Girl Next Door Honey and Carolina Gelen, as well as national brands including Kate’s Real Food, to spread the word on the campaign and provide inspiration for incorporating honey into baked goods and other foods.

Hilary Kearney, the beekeeper behind the Girl Next Door Honey persona, will support the partnership through behind-the-scenes looks at her day-to-day work with bees.

“My profession as a beekeeper provides me with a front-row seat to the incredible role honey bees and honey play in our ecosystem,” Kearney said. “I’m proud to use my experience to educate consumers about honey production and to inspire them to support pollinator health as part of the Honey Saves Hive program.”

Gelen, a bestselling cookbook author, will share easy and approachable recipes that incorporate honey into daily meals to help consumers explore its culinary potential at home.

“Honey will elevate any recipe,” Gelen said. “The all-natural sweetener can uplevel any dish — sweet or savory, simple or sophisticated. Honey’s versatility and flavor make it a staple in my recipes, and that’s why I’m so proud to lend my voice to the National Honey Board’s Honey Saves Hives campaign.”

From Sept. 20-21, the National Honey Board will host an exclusive, one-weekend honey takeover at Time Out Market New York food hall where top New York chefs will challenge themselves to curate a diverse menu of dishes featuring honey. For those outside of NYC, distilleries, breweries and bakeries across the country will feature honey on their menus in celebration of National Honey Month.
