HORSHAM, PA — Grupo Bimbo has launched its 2023 annual report, “Behind Our Actions.” The report highlights the company’s overall progress and the progress it has made toward its sustainability goals for 2030 and 2050.
“During 2023, we made significant progress towards our 2030 and 2050 commitments,” said Rafael Pamias, CEO of Grupo Bimbo. “For example, we achieved 95 percent positive nutrition in our daily bread, pastries and breakfast portfolio. Also, 27 of the 35 countries in which we are operating already use renewable electricity.”
The company’s ESG strategy consists of three main pillars: Baked for You, Baked for Nature and Baked for Life.
Under its Baked for Nature pillar, which focuses on regeneration, growth, circularity and creating a positive impact on the planet, Grupo Bimbo reported that 93% of the company’s global packaging is made from recyclable materials. This supports the company’s goal for 100% of its packaging to be recyclable, biodegradable or compostable by 2050.
In its journey towards becoming a net zero carbon company, Grupo Bimbo also announced that 92% of its global electricity comes from renewable sources such as solar and wind.

As part of its Baked for You priority, which emphasizes offering better nutritional profiles, plant-based diets and sustainable brands, the company reported that 98% of its daily consumption products are free of artificial colors and flavors. The brand also expanded its gluten-free offerings with the acquisition of the Canadian company, Natural Bakery.
Lastly, under its Baked for Life pillar, which is aimed at strengthening communities, the company implemented 263 community projects in 28 countries as part of its Good Neighbor program. This program was created to improve the quality of life of the people who live or work around Grupo Bimbo’s work centers, positively impacting more than 440,000 people.
The company also donated 2.8 million slices of bread to food banks around the world, thanks to massive participation in the 2023 Bimbo Global Race.
“All of us who are part of Grupo Bimbo should be proud of these milestones published in the annual report, which endorse our purpose of nourishing a better world,” Pamias added.
Earlier this year, Grupo Bimbo received recognition from The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for its sustainability efforts.
