EAST HANOVER, NJ — In its latest cross-brand collaboration, Chips Ahoy! is immersing consumers in the world of Netflix’s Stranger Things series with a new offering and retro revamp of its classic packaging.
The TV-inspired sweet features a chocolatey base, fudge chips and a red strawberry-flavored filling, marking the brand’s first-ever foray into fruit-flavored fillings. The glow-in-the-dark packaging also harkens to the show with motifs integrated into the design.
“This isn’t just any product launch — it’s a cultural moment that joins two beloved brands together in an exciting and captivating way,” said Sabrina Sierant, senior director of Chips Ahoy! “Our collaboration with Stranger Things appeals to both long-time lovers of Chips Ahoy! cookies and Stranger Things fans who have loved every episode.”
In addition to the Upside Down-inspired cookie, the Original Chips Ahoy! package is getting a retro revamp to mimic the 1980s aesthetic of the Netflix series.
“Through experiential components and elements of nostalgia, we are delivering unforgettable experiences for different generations of fans — whether they grew up in the ’80s or are experiencing that awesome decade through the show,” Sierant said.
Consumers can nab the Chips Ahoy! x Stranger Things Limited-Edition Cookie by shopping in stores beginning Aug. 11, or by signing up for the Mondelez International brand’s first-ever pre-sale. By scanning an on-pack QR code, shoppers can engage in an augmented-reality game inspired by Stranger Things for a chance to win exclusive prizes.
The Chips Ahoy! x Stranger Things Limited-Edition Cookie will be available in a traditional tray size starting at $5.79. This flavor will also be available in 2-count packs for on-the-go snacking occasions and as an option for Halloween treats.
