LOS ANGELES – Bougie Bakes, a maker and distributor of healthy baked goods and snack alternatives, announced that its products will now be shipped in completely sustainable packaging.
New materials include reusable cookie tins with the brand’s signature colors of white and gold, 100% recyclable trays and film made of cellulose derived from wood pulp. Any orders from returning customers will be shipped in the trays alone, and customers can reuse their tins for storage.
“Sustainability has always been a focus,” said Meghan Quinn, co-founder and chief creative officer, Bougie Bakes. “We spent the past year coming up with a solution to eliminate wasteful packaging while maintaining a beautiful presentation and keeping our bakes fresh.”
In addition to the product packaging, the shipping boxes, padding and tape are also recyclable. Traditional shipping tape is non-recyclable and often disqualifies an otherwise recyclable cardboard box if not removed. Ryan Quinn, co-founder, Bougie Bakes, said the tape is made with recycled paper and is water-activated.
“This special tape requires an expensive machine,” he said. “But it’s worth it because it enables us to save so much waste.”
The company said it is now one of the only e-commerce brands to offset 100% of its carbon emissions generated from shipping. An algorithm calculates the emissions of each order based on the products and where it is shipping, and the initiative comes with no additional cost to customers.
