KANSAS CITY, MO — The Bakers National Educational Foundation (BNEF) launched its 2023 fundraising campaign, with a goal to raise $200,000 for the Bakery Science Management (BSM) program at Kansas State University (KSU).
“We understand the pressing need to cultivate the next generation of talent,” said Dave Krishock, board chair of BNEF. “The Bakery Science Management program at K-State has long been renowned for its comprehensive education program and training opportunities. Through our collective efforts and the generosity of our donors, we plan to help high school students, their parents and educational advisors discover the baking industry and realize the potential for careers that support interests in science, technology, engineering and math, as well as passion to feed the world.”
According to Krishock, the funds will support two initiatives. First, proceeds will be directed toward sustaining the employment of a highly qualified teacher who provides guidance, mentorship and expertise. BNEF has financially supported this KSU position for 60 years.
Funds will also go toward enhancing the program’s infrastructure and expanding student enrollment opportunities. With the impending opening of a state-of-the-art building on the KSU campus, the BSM program will be able to accommodate a larger number of students, providing them with an optimal learning environment to receive a world-class baking education.
“The BNEF is a group of KSU alumni and friends who are passionate about our great university and our Baking Science program,” said Theresa Cogswell, BNEF board member. “Each member volunteers their time to make this program work today and into the future. We want others to have the opportunities in the baking industry that each of us have been blessed with in our careers.”
