INDIANAPOLIS — A new era of leadership is beginning for the Bakery Equipment Assessment Group (BEAG), an organization offering the industry equipment evaluation and resources to advance awareness and understanding of ANSI/ASB Z50 standards.

Sarah Day, director of education for the American Society of Baking (ASB), has been selected to lead BEAG as managing consultant.

“This transition reflects BEAG’s commitment to continuity, thoughtful leadership and continued service to the industry,” said Kristen L. Spriggs, executive director of BEAG and ASB CEO. “Sarah is well prepared to support BEAG’s work, and the additional professional support structure will help ensure that the organization remains responsive, focused and effective.”

Day succeeds Jon Anderson, who is retiring from the position after years of service to the industry.

“On behalf of the BEAG Board, I want to express our deep appreciation for Jon’s commitment to establishing universally accepted standards for baking and low-moisture foods,” said Jeff Shura, BEAG board chair and senior VP of engineering and technology at Thomasville, GA-based Flowers Foods. “We are grateful for the foundation he helped build and appreciate Sarah’s leadership as she guides BEAG’s daily operations and continued service to the industry.”

As part of this transition, Day will take over day-to-day operations and oversight for the organization as well as provide coordination and operational leadership for BEAG as it grows. The organization already works closely with ASB to support the continuity of education, standards leadership and industry engagement on this essential topic.
