CHICAGO — Alpha Baking Co., creator of the S. Rosen’s, Mary Ann Baking and Natural Ovens brands, is celebrating Father’s Day with the return of its “Name a Bread Truck” contest.

The baking company is inviting consumers to submit “punny” truck names inspired by dads, or, more specifically, their jokes. The contest encourages participants to nominate a father, grandfather, mentor, caregiver or other “dad figure” whose favorite sayings, nicknames or comebacks have inspired them and could, in turn, inspire a creative name.

“Our S. Rosen’s trucks are part of the daily rhythm of Chicago — delivering fresh bread, buns and rolls to grocery stores, restaurants and neighborhood hot dog stands before most people have had their first cup of coffee,” said Stephanie Powell, director of marketing for Alpha Baking Co. “With Father’s Day approaching, we thought it would be fun to celebrate the dads and father figures known for their classic dad jokes, bun puns and unforgettable one-liners.”

A panel of Alpha Baking employees will select three winning entries, evaluating submissions based on creativity, wit, uniqueness, product knowledge and expression of theme. The winners will be featured on S. Rosen’s delivery trucks traveling throughout the city and will also receive a year’s supply of bread, two tickets to a Chicago Cubs or Milwaukee Brewers game and a collectible mini bread truck.

The contest is open to residents of Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana. Entries can be submitted online from through June 5, with winners announced ahead of Father’s Day.

“We’re expecting some truly ‘fully baked’ ideas,” Powell added. “Chicagoans have a great sense of humor, and dads are famous for delivering the kind of jokes that never get old — even if their kids pretend they do.”
