SAN ANSELMO, CA – Alex’s Awesome Sourdough has introduced two new SKUs: a Plant-Based Vegan Margherita Pizza and an Organic Pepperoni Pizza. The margherita pizza is made up of fermented artisan crusts and topped with organic plum tomato sauce and Sonoma sea salt. The organic pepperoni pizza uses pepperoni sourced from Organic Valley where animals are raised without GMO feed, antibiotics or artificial hormones.

Alex’s Awesome Sourdough is the first frozen pizza company to use naturally fermented sourdough pizza with organic and non-GMO verified ingredients. As consumers’ dietary needs continue to change, companies such as Alex’s Awesome Sourdough have adapted in order to provide consumers with the products they want.

Sourdough is unique in that its natural fermentation process means easier digestion, a lower glycemic index and more bioavailable nutrients. Alex Corsini, the founder of Alex’s Awesome Sourdough, started using sourdough for his pizzas when he developed an autoimmune condition.

“We want to expand our offerings to all health-conscious eaters so they can reap the benefits of gut-healthy foods.”

“I realized I had gluten-sensitivity in 2016 and felt terrible eating normal baked goods,” Corsini said. “Then a doctor of mine suggested that sourdough could be a feel-good option for me as its unique fermentation process breaks down gluten, lowers the glycemic index of the dough and makes nutrients more bioavailable.”

Before starting his business, Corsini apprenticed at a Michelin star restaurant in Europe as well as several sourdough bakeries to better understand the fermentation process of the dough and flavor development.
