WASHINGTON DC — The American Bakers Association (ABA) welcomes five new members to its board of directors.

The new members — Tony Gavin, Darlene Nicosia, Dean Short, Paul Lattan and Tim Cook — will provide strategic guidance for the industry as well as gather to discuss ABA issues, events and programs. They will also ensure that all ABA Members and the ABA team work together to succeed in every segment of a membership.

“We are honored to welcome these five accomplished leaders to the ABA board of directors and look forward to their diverse insights and leadership. The addition of these new board members also ensures that ABA truly represents all segments of the baking industry. As these members join the ABA leadership, I also want to recognize the unwavering service of outgoing board members Fred Penny, Chuck Metzger and Kurt Miller,” said Robb MacKie, president and CEO, ABA. “Their service on the board guided our organization and industry through unthinkable, challenging global events. We are now in a stronger position than ever due to their leadership. ABA’s Members and staff are grateful for their significant contributions.”

Tony Gavin is the executive VP of Bimbo Bakeries USA (BBU), holding many executive positions since he began working there in 2003. Prior to BBU, he held titles at George Weston Bakeries, Best Foods Inc. and CPC International.

Darlene Nicosia is the new CEO to Hearthside Foods as of this year. Nicosia served as president for Coca-Cola’s Canada and Northeast US zone prior to her current role. Her vast years of experience and knowledge bring forth decades of food industry experience including roles at Kraft and PepsiCo.

Dean Short is president and CEO of Lewis Brothers Bakeries, Inc. Since 1979, when he joined the company, Short as taken on roles in many different areas of the company.

Paul Lattan is the president – principal of Avant Food Media and publisher of Commercial Baking, as well as a BEMA representative. Lattan is a well-established industry leader with more than 32 years of experience in the commercial baking B2B media space. With this expertise, he launched Avant Food Media in 2020, which is an emerging B2B voice in the food and baking industry that give fresh insights on trends and innovations.

Tim Cook, an Allied At-Large representative, is the president and CEO of the Linxis Group. Linxis is a leader within the specialized equipment in five countries and serves as an industrial food and health manufacturing industry.
