KANSAS CITY, MO — The Baking Expo serves as a hub for collaboration and celebration of the baking industry. In line with this ethos, Corbion is hosting an event in honor of the 10-year anniversary of The Women’s Bakery.

Founded by CEO Markey Culver, the social enterprise bakery creates work opportunities for women in East Africa through baking and selling cost-effective, nutrient-dense baked goods.

On Sept. 16 from 3-5 p.m., the ingredients company will hold a happy hour at Booth #3825 to raise awareness and fiscal support for The Women’s Bakery. Showgoers are encouraged to swing by for sweet treats and a donation-based raffle, with prizes ranging from a $1,000 VISA gift card to bottles of bourbon. Corbion will match donations for the non-profit up to $2,500.

The company’s support of The Women’s Bakery and segments of the operation such as the One Bread Project — a program that provides fortified baked goods to local schoolchildren — aligns with two sustainable development goals it upholds: zero hunger and good health and wellbeing.

“What they’re doing for the communities they serve and helping to educate women on how to run and maintain complex businesses to support their families aligns with Corbion’s mission of good health and wellbeing for the whole person,” said Ashley Robertson, director of global marketing and communications at Corbion.

This event furthers a thread of support for The Women’s Bakery throughout the industry. During IBIE 2022, Corbion, Bundy Baking Solutions and Shick Esteve (now under Coperion) teamed up to donate $5 for every attendee badge scanned. In 2021, BEMA members banded together to raise $25,000 in support of the organization.
