KIGALI, RWANDA — The Women’s Bakery (TWB), a social enterprise bakery that creates employment opportunities by baking and selling affordable breads through East African bakeries, is expanding with the opening of a new location in Musanze, Rwanda.

The new bakery will operate as part of TWB’s One Bread Project, an initiative that provides school students in the area with fresh, fortified bread. There will be a co-pay for a percentage of the price of TWB bread, with the remaining costs covered by donations.

The financial model enables TWB to continue scaling operations while serving free bread to students in need. It will also enable the Musanze bakery to provide free bread to schools serving Early Childhood Development (ECD) students, as Rwanda’s National School Feeding Program does not guarantee ECD students a daily meal.

Aligning with TWB’s primary mission of supporting women in East Africa, the new bakery features a baby house, western toilets, a shower for bakers and a canteen for team members to share meals.
