BALTIMORE — Schmidt Baking Co., part of the H&S Family of Bakeries, is expanding its product line with consumers’ desire for quality and size in mind.

The new Artisan’s Choice line of sliced breads is available in three varieties, each appealing to different needs. Italian Rustico is made with olive oil, sea salt, garlic and onion; the Rustic Brioche is a dairy- and egg-free sweet loaf; and the Ancient Grains & Seeds bread contains sprouted wheat flour and ancient grains, appealing to consumers interested in better-for-you products.

The baking company was particular about the half loaf size, noted Ryan Paterakis, director of national sales at H&S.

“Research shows that food waste is a growing concern for people in the US,” Paterakis said. “Offering smaller, ‘Perfect Portions’ in a 14-ounce loaf is a way to reduce potential food waste. All in the same, the growing trend of ‘artisan’ style breads for commercial bread and rolls has been growing in popularity. That’s why we developed a loaf that combines a smaller loaf with a few varieties that we feel would show well in the artisan style line.”

Schmidt Baking Artisan’s Choice breads are available in traditional grocers in the Mid-Atlantic region and at Wal-Mart locations in the Northeast at an SRP of $2.99.

In addition to the half loaves, the brand is set to roll out an 8-pack Brioche Sandwich Rolls and 8-pack Bread Sticks later this year for $4.29.
