RIDGEFIELD, NJ — The growing conversation surrounding sustainability initiatives within the CPG space is among the top 2025 consumer trends. In response to the increased interest, Toufayan Bakeries reformatted its pita line to significantly reduce the use of plastics in its packaging.
The new packaging is 100% recyclable and features a resealable zipper closure, which not only removes the need for a plastic clip but also ensures consistent taste and storage abilities for consumers.
“This is the pita our grandfather perfected, that we proudly share with families nationwide,” said Karen Toufayan, VP of marketing and sales for Toufayan. “Upgrading our entire product line to best-in-class sustainable packaging reflects our commitment as a family-owned business that cares deeply about future generations.”
The updated packaging is expected to reduce overall plastic consumption by more than 40 tons a year, aligning with Toufayan’s commitment to sustainability and environmentally conscious sourcing. The ongoing initiative will minimize the company’s carbon footprint and deliver on its waste reduction efforts at each manufacturing facility.
With the updated sustainable packaging, Toufayan will also execute its yearly initiative of donating a portion of proceeds from select products to fund breast cancer research.
Through October, the updated packaging for the bread company’s pitas, flatbreads and bagels will feature a pink trim and a breast cancer awareness ribbon.
“As a family business, our team, our community and our customers are all part of the Toufayan extended family,” she said. “Too many of us have a personal connection to someone impacted by breast cancer. We are proud to support initiatives aimed at improving and saving lives.”
Each purchase will support Toufayan’s mission to raise awareness and funds for the cause. The breast cancer awareness branded products are available in grocery stores and on the bakery’s Amazon store for a limited time.
