Martin’s Famous Potato Rolls and Bread announces bakery expansion

CHAMBERSBURG, PA — Martin’s Famous Potato Rolls and Bread is investing $123.2 million to expand its Guilford Township, PA, manufacturing facility. The project is expected to create nearly 130 new jobs over five years.

“We are very excited to be growing our business and expanding our bakery in our hometown of Chambersburg,” said Tony Martin, Martin’s president and third-generation Martin family member. “Our amazing employees, supportive community and loyal customers are helping us create good American jobs and expand our market area throughout the US and around the world.”

The expansion, which will add approximately 295,000 square feet to the existing bakery, will help the company meet increased demand for products both in the US and internationally. The project includes a state-of-the-art, fully air-conditioned roll production line, a cold dock/freezer, and an electric substation to service current needs and support future growth.

“Martin’s is a true Pennsylvania success story — and the Martin family and its workers have worked hard to reinvest and grow in Central Pennsylvania while making a darn good potato roll,” said Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who joined Martin’s leadership for the announcement. “Martin’s success shows us what’s possible here in Pennsylvania — and it’s the kind of success I want to replicate.”

Martin’s opened operations in 1955 in Lloyd and Lois Martin’s one-car garage, which they converted into a bakery. Since then, the family-owned and operated business has expanded into two commercial bakeries, one in Chambersburg, PA, and one in Valdosta, GA.
