PLANO, TX — Frito-Lay and Quaker released the first-ever joint US Summer Snack Index to shed light on consumer preferences and habits for the anticipated summer season.
“Food is an important centerpiece for the joy that summertime brings,” said Denise Lefebvre, senior VP, PepsiCo Foods R&D. “At Frito-Lay and Quaker, we are deeply invested in understanding what our consumers want so they can have the right flavors, variety, snack styles and even packaging options all season.”
The Summer Snack Index comes more than four years since Frito-Lay issued its inaugural trend report. As snacking remains a key factor in Americans lives, with 49% enjoying three or more snacks per a day, the report serves as a crucial marker of evolving food preferences and consumer purchasing behaviors.
“Americans snack more in the summer, whether they’re inside, outdoors, or on the move,” Lefebvre said. “From boosting road trip morale to complementing an outdoor potluck, today’s data confirms the integral role that snacks will play in many of this season’s shared moments and activities.”
The report measures the evolution of food preferences and purchasing decisions of consumer behavior. With the top three categories including:
- Get Road Trip Ready: With pre-pandemic levels of travel, the companies see that snacking remains essential for road trips.
- The Ultimate Summer Soiree: With more cookouts and summer festivities, snack sharing is caring.
- Outdoor Escapes: As outdoor activities continue, having the proper snacks can make all the difference.
