NEW YORK — Bimbo Ventures, the venture capital sector of Mexico City-based Grupo Bimbo, has made a minority investment in Olyra Foods, a producer of organic, nutritional breakfast biscuits made from stone-milled Greek grains. The investment will expand Olyra’s presence in retail and online.

“Olyra, in a very authentic way, has tapped into a consumer need for more nutritious and delicious breakfast solutions,” said Constantino Matouk, VP of Bimbo Ventures. “We are excited to work with them to help grow the business and expand availability of Olyra’s products to more consumers.”

Yannis Varellas, founder and CEO of Olyra, launched the brand in 2017 with the goal to create the first nutritious and delicious breakfast biscuit. Drawing inspiration from his family’s Greek grain mill, Varellas connected with local farmers to create a product from ancient grains such as barley, oar, spelt and lupine.

Olyra expanded its portfolio beyond its debut line of crunchy breakfast biscuits to include sandwich breakfast biscuits and filled breakfast biscuits. The organic, non-GMO biscuits are made with natural ingredients and boast promising nutrition traits such as 4g of fiber, 5g of protein and 6g of sugar per serving.

The brand’s products are currently sold online and in over 5,000 retail stores across the US.
