MEXICO CITY — Tony Gavin will serve as president of Bimbo Bakeries USA, the largest commercial baking company in the US. He will succeed Fred Penny, effective March 31. Penny has led Grupo Bimbo SAB de CV’s American operations for the past 10 years.
Gavin, who has been with the company for 20 years, is currently executive vice president of BBU. Prior to his time with BBU, he worked for George Weston Bakeries; Best Foods, Inc.; and CPC International, Inc. He was elected to the board of the American Bakers Association in 2022.
“Tony’s primary passion has been growth by supporting our front line, and I am confident that this mindset, along with his care for our associates as well as our company, will fuel his success in this new role,” said Daniel Servitje, president and CEO of Grupo Bimbo.
The succession plan was announced in Grupo Bimbo’s fourth-quarter financial results and included other leadership changes. Rafael Pamias was promoted to COO, a new position at Grupo Bimbo. Mark Bendix, EVP of Grupo Bimbo, will expand his scope of responsibilities to include BBU, in addition to Bimbo Canada and Bimbo QSR.
Bimbo described all the changes as “consistent with its succession plan and its long-term vision.”
