BERKELEY, CA — In Fast Company’s second annual “The Next Big Things in Tech” list, Upcycled Foods Co. was recognized as one of the four top innovators in the food and agriculture category for its B2B upcycled food work. The 21-category list is curated by a panel of editors and writers from the publication and recognizes companies of all sizes with potential for significant growth in the coming years.
“This recognition acknowledges our leadership and hard work in the upcycled food movement these past 10 years,” said Dan Kurzrock, co-founder and CEO of Upcycled Foods Inc. “We are here to continue accelerating food system circularity at the nexus of flavor, nutrition and sustainability. We have come a long way, but in many ways, this is just the beginning.”
The company developed a patented thermos-chemical process in partnership with the USDA to convert spent grain from breweries into ReGrained SuperGrain+, a flavorful ingredient that is rich in nutrients, fiber and protein. Upcycled Foods’ innovation lab and current portfolio of six upcycled ingredients drives the category forward as interest in sustainable products increases from consumers.
