LOS ANGELES — Sweetgreen, a mission-driven restaurant chain serving healthy food at scale, announced the launch of its new dessert category and inaugural offering, Crispy Rice Treat.
Sticking to the theme of good-for-you meals, the sweet good is naturally sweetened with honey date caramel and made with gluten-free grains including organic brown rice, quinoa and puffed millet, butter and roasted sunflower seeds.
The Crispy Rice Treat was created in a partnership with Sweetgreen’s first-ever chef-in-residence, Malcolm Livingston II.
“This is a new category for us and working with Malcolm has been the key to creating a healthy yet craveable take on this nostalgic treat,” said Nicolas Jammet, co-founder and chief concept officer of Sweetgreen. “We hope the Crispy Rice Treat provides a sweet moment for our customers after enjoying some of our more savory dishes.”
Livingston II joins Sweetgreen with extensive pastry experience at restaurants such as Le Cirque, Per Se, wd~50 and noma. In this role, he will continue to collaborate with Sweetgreen’s test kitchen to strengthen menu offerings.
“Sweetgreen is a brand that values quality of ingredients first, something I admire from a restaurant that serves food on a large scale, and it’s what drew me to want to create this dessert with their team,” the chef added.
On Nov. 11, the company will be hosting Free Dessert Friday. With a minimum purchase of $9.95, the first in-store customers will receive the new dessert, while supplies last. Sweetgreen is also running a promotion from Nov. 28-Dec. 4 where digital customers can buy a Cripsy Rice Treat for $1 with any order above $9.95.
The Crispy Rice Treat is now available for purchase at restaurants nationwide and via the restaurant’s app or website for $2.95 each.
