ERIE, CO — In celebration of National Honey Month this September, the National Honey Board is bringing back its educational campaign, Honey Saves Hives.

Now in its fifth year, the campaign is designed to connect beekeepers, food manufacturers, retail bakers, chefs and foodies to celebrate the importance of honey and honeybees across multiple industries.

Hilary Kearney, the beekeeper behind the popular Girl Next Door Honey Instagram account, joined the Honey Saves Hives campaign this year, creating social media content to help consumers better understand the invaluable contributions honeybees grant the global food supply. Kearney’s content will focus on bee-centric programs, such as beehive tours and beekeeping classes.

“As a beekeeper, I know firsthand the important role honeybees play in our lives and our food supply,” Kearney said. “Purchasing honey not only helps beekeepers like myself maintain a happy home for honeybees, but it also contributes to important research about honeybee health. I wish more people understood that when you purchase honey or made-with-honey products, you are making a positive impact on honeybee hives, which is why I am thrilled to be a part of Honey Saves Hives this year.”

Samah Dada also joined the campaign to inspire her followers to incorporate honey and honeybee-pollinated foods into their meals. Her popular food blog, DadaEats, showcases her distinct cooking style, which she utilizes to highlight the versatility of honey and how it can elevate signature dishes.

“In my kitchen, honey is my go-to sweetener for many different meals and occasions because of its natural and wholesome qualities,” Dada said. “Plus, by using honey, I’m making a choice that supports our food ecosystem, since honeybees pollinate one in every three bites of food that we eat, including many that I use every day. I’m beyond excited to be teaming up with the National Honey Board to highlight one easy way we can all support honeybees: using honey!”

The Honey Saves Hives campaign also enlisted the help of several notable food brands, including Kate’s Real Food, Kodiak and Mary’s Gone Crackers, each of which use honey in their products.

To thank consumers for their support and participation during September, the National Honey Board is offering a $1.00 reward on the purchase of any honey 12 ounces or larger.
