MEXICO CITY — Grupo Bimbo, the global baking company, will open a food-processing facility in Valdosta, investing $25 million and creating 74 jobs.
The investment comes through Bimbo QSR, a division of the company that supplies quick-service restaurant (QSR) channels with various types of hamburger, hot dog and sandwich buns. The QSR division has 37 bakeries across 21 countries and is opening the new operation to be closer to customers in the Southeast US, according to Al Gomez, general manager and VP of Bimbo QSR’s US division.
The investment comes through Bimbo QSR, a division of the company that supplies the quick-service restaurant industry with various types of hamburger, hot dog and sandwich buns.
“We are very excited to partner with the state to bring this manufacturing site to Georgia and to collaborate in the economic development of this area,” Gomez said in a news release circulated by the state of Georgia. The company will upgrade an existing 100,000-square-foot speculative building in Lowndes County.
Bimbo QSR has 2,500 employees globally, including at facilities in Illinois and Ohio. The group is a division of Grupo Bimbo, which also owns several US brands including Thomas’, Sara Lee and Entenmann’s. Grupo Bimbo operates 203 plants in 33 countries, employing more than 133,000 people with sales of $15.4 billion.
